Clean Energy Improvement Program

Application intake closed for 2023: The next application intake will open in Spring 2024. The date will be announced 30 days in advance and will remain open until 150 pre-qualification submissions have been received.

CEIP offers flexible financing to residential property owners to help with the upfront costs of energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. CEIP offers homeowners:

  • Financing for up to 100% of project costs.

  • Competitive interest rates (rate for 2023 is 2.95%).

  • Long repayment terms (up to 20 years).

  • The option to repay in full at any time without penalty.

  • An incentive of up to 10% of total project costs.

  • Repayment collected through your property tax bill.

What is CEIP for residential programs?

The Clean Energy Improvement Program, or CEIP, is an innovative financing tool for property owners in Alberta. Access competitive interest rates and make repayment convenient through your property’s regular tax bill.

Municipalities with programs available for residential property, including detached and semi-detached homes, town houses, and low-rise apartment buildings.

Residential programs varies in different cities in Alberta. 

City of Calgary Project Incentives: 10% off complete projects

The City of Calgary is offering an incentive for completed CEIP projects. The incentive will be applied directly to the Clean Energy Improvement Tax reducing the project financing by up to 10%. Availability is limited and will be provided in a first-come, first-served basis

Applications are submitted to Alberta Municipalities.  Find CEIP Terms and Conditions at the last section of this page. 

How to apply?

Step 1. Make sure all property owners are aware of the program and your intention to apply.

Step 2. Make sure your property is eligible.

Step 3. Make sure you meet financial and property tax requirements.

Step 4. Review mortgage agreements, insurance policies, and building policies applicable to your property.

Step 5. Gather information about your property. 

Step 6. Review the eligible improvements and eligibility requirements.
